After upgrading to Server 2012 I ran into an issue that Lync would no longer start the Front-End service on the server. After trying several things I concluded to try and “reinstall” the Front-end server. After some crashes this gave me the following error:
Error: An error occurred: “Microsoft.Rtc.Management.Deployment.UnknownObjectException” “Error accessing registry key “AppID\{9fa5c497-f46d-447f-8011-05d03d7d7ddc}”.”
I found said key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\AppID\{9fa5c497-f46d-447f-8011-05d03d7d7ddc} and took Ownership of the key and granted access to the Local Admin group. I also disabled the AUC via the Control Panel.
Afterwards I tried booting the Lync Server Front-End service which still failed with this error:
The Lync Server Front-End service terminated with the following service-specific error:
%%3286774273
A quick query on the internet would lead us in the direction of the MSMQ. But after fully installing this service it still does not work. A bit more searching points me into the direction of the certificate, but this is installed. Once I try assigning it however I get the following error:
The term ‘Set-CSCertificate’ is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.
After several hours of attempting to get this to work I have come to the conclusion that Lync 2010 does not work on Server 2012.
